7th and 8th grade girls’ track members - please turn in your washed uniforms and sweats by Friday.  Thanks. Coach Steffensen and Coach Hinders

 

The 7th and 8th grade girls’ track team wrapped up their seasons last night at the NIC Conference meet in Belmond. The 8th grade highlights were a first place finish by Anna Skarpohl-Ost in the 800 and a third place throw for Jessica Bruhns in the shot put.  The 4 X 800 and 4 X 400 (MaKayla H., Macy H., Maranda E., and Anna S.) relays paced the field for respective first place finishes.  The distance medley (MaKayla H., Macy H., Maranda E., and Anna S.) was narrowly distanced at the line for a second place finish.  7th grade highlights were first and second place throws for Maria Mayland in the discus and shot put.  Morgan H. ran strong in the hurdles recording a 2nd place finish in the 7 flight hurdles.  In relay action the 4 X 800 (Kelsey G., Missy G., Jessica A., and Morgan K.) finished first, shuttle hurdle (Katelin F., Sarah K., Kelsey G., and Morgan H.) came across the line in second, and also recording a second place finish was the 4 X 400 relay (Macie E., Maddie A., Jessica A., and Morgan K.)  Although conditions were not ideal (windy), both teams perservered with some impressive efforts.  Mrs. Steffensen and Mr. Hinders want to thank all 7th and 8th grade track participants and parents on a fun and entertaining season. 

 

Special congratulations to the 7th grade boys on winning the conference championship last night at Britt.  They totaled 124 points to beat out Forest City with 105. Six first place finishes took place. Frank Campos broke a school record and conference record in the shot put throwing it 40 ft. 9 inches. Other first place finishes included Jordan Anderson in the 800 meters and  Troy Kettwick in the long jump; the 4 X 800 Relay team of Brandan Willmert, Justin Murray, Kory Hobbs and Eric Krull; the Distance Medley team of Eric Krull, Troy Kettwick, Mark Milbrandt, and Jordan Anderson were first - along with the 4 X 400 relay team of Frank Campos, Mark Milbrandt, Justin Murray and Jordan Anderson. Thanks goes to both the 7th and 8th grade on a very enjoyable season.

 

There will be a 7th and 8th grade student council meeting during flex for the May group.  The media center will be closed during that time.  Mrs. Mayland

 

8th grader softball practice starts Tuesday PM right after school at the softball field in B.C.  Coach Aukes

 

Practice for students involved in the Memorial Day services in Lakota will be during flex in the ICN room on (Tues.) May 13th, (Thurs.) May 15th and (Wed.) May 21st.  Students involved are – Shelby Berte, Caitlin Sahr, Anthony Weringa, Aleah Brown, Carli Price, Ryan Schiefelbein, Josh Clarke, Nick Kahler, Morgan Kahler and Jenna Schutter.  On Thursday, May 22nd they will be presenting their program to area nursing homes.  Students will report to school and leave at 9:30 and then will be gone all day.  Mrs. Goldtrap will be chaperoning the trip.

 

Tuesday, May 13th – Pizza and pop party at 11:40 for Mrs. Price’s class for their efforts in the Pennies for Leukemia and Lymphoma fundraiser.  Great job!

You may sign up for the Drivers Education summer classes at this time in the MS or HS office. The summer class will start on May 29th and run through June 23rd. Half of the $175.00 class fee is due at the time of sign up.  Sign up before May 16th.

 

All students are encouraged to enter a design for the cover of the 2007-2008 K-8 Annual. If you win, you will receive an annual FREE. Entries may be computer generated or done freehand. Works will be judged on neatness, creativity and good use of color.  Give your finished work to Mrs. Coy or turn in to the office by May 16.
