Information on the HS tardy
policy. Any student receiving their first tardy for any class will be
required to serve 15 minutes of detention. Any tardy thereafter results
in 30 minutes of detention for each tardy. Detentions can be served
before or after school and need to be served within a week of receiving the
tardy. Teachers will communicate to a student if they are receiving a
tardy.
Any student who is absent needs to have
their parent/guardian communicate with the school. If the school does not
receive communication on why a student is absent, the student will be
considered absent unexcused or truant. Unexcused absences will result in
making up classroom time through detention (before or after school) or making
up time on a Saturday.
Students: You were given a planner
at the beginning of the school year. This planner was provided to help
you academically - keep track of assignments, important dates, etc. It
also serves as a passport for you to use when leaving a class or for other pass
needs. You are expected to have the planner for the entire school
year. If you lose your original planner, you will need to pay $5.00 for a
new one. New planners can be purchased in the HS office. Teachers
will not allow students to leave their classroom or give a pass unless you have
your planner. Make sure
you have your planners with you if you are in the hallways or going from place
to place.
A special “thank you” to the following
students from the Booster Club for helping put down new sod on the softball
field: Philip Griese, Tanner Weringa, Harley Weidermeier, Evan
Sunde, Justin Steinfeldt,
Ben Van Reese.
There have been some questions in
regards to the high school’s dress code. The NIHS Student Handbook reads
as follows:
“Students should dress appropriately.
The following clothing would be considered inappropriate, and the student will
be asked to change it immediately: Any garment with spaghetti straps;
low-cut shirts; halter tops; clothing that leaves the midriff bare; short
shorts; clothing with holes and/or clothing that reveals undergarments; ‘muscle
shirts’ that are revealing; clothing with inappropriate wording or connotation;
clothing that is overly tight and/or revealing; clothing with obscene or
indecent sayings or pictures; and clothing that advertises an alcoholic
beverage or tobacco.”
Undergarments in particular have been an
issue. At no time should any undergarment be shown or revealed.
There have been enough “reminders” and warnings about such attire.
Violation of this rule or any other part of the school’s dress code may result
in being sent home with the absence recorded as an unexcused absence.
Thanks for your cooperation.
Do not keep valuables in your academic
lockers or athletic lockers. If you have anything of value, it is always
a good idea to leave it at home, give it to a teacher of the office for safe
keeping, or use a padlock to lock your lockers. There is little the
school can do if an item of yours is stolen from your locker if it is not
locked. Please contact the HS office or Mr. Embrock if you need/want a
padlock.
All beverages, other than water, are not
allowed in the classrooms.
Students: A reminder that your
attendance is key to your success at school. You can only be absent from
each class 5 times before the possibility of losing credit. If you are
absent unexcused, you will be making up the time in which you missed in the
form of detention or possibly a
Make sure you are getting to class on
time and prepared for your class. Your first tardy from a class will
result in 15 minutes of detention. Any tardy thereafter will result in 30
minutes of detention.
Students are not allowed to leave the
school’s campus unless given permission by the HS office or Mr. Embrock.
