4/19/11 – Day A

Congratulations to the following seniors who were selected as graduation speakers to represent the class of 2011:  Logan Hovland, Megan Julsrud-Wertjes, Tanner Weringa.

 

Congratulations to Eric Krull medalist with a score of 36.  The boys lost 2 and won 1 with a score of 186.  The girls lost 2 and won 1 with a score 234. Very good job to both boys and girls overall records are 5 and 2.

 

The boys and girls Varsity and JV golf team can be excuse at 3:10 on Tuesday, April 19.

 

Sophomore students who have been asked to wait tables for prom will have a working lunch meeting during tomorrow in the ICN room.

 

Competition Cheer Practice Friday at 11am on the stage. Anyone interested should attend to start stunt progressions. An athletic physical must be on file with the school before you can participate. See Dy with questions.

 

Committee meeting for the blood drive will be held today at 3:01 pm in Mrs. Aukes office.  Please bring your appointment schedule and folder.

 

There will be a Jr. Class meeting at 12:30 on Tuesday, April 19th, in the auditorium.  All class members are expected to attend.

 

Sign up to give blood at NIHS Blood Drive on Thursday, April 28 from 1:45 pm to 6:30 pm.  This is a great community service.  We are competing with other schools to win a $1,000 scholarship for one of our seniors. In order to win the scholarship, we need to schedule LOTS of  appointments.  Contact Tony Wubben, Sarah Anderson or Mrs. Aukes to schedule an appointment.

 

The County Conservation Board is in need of volunteers to help distribute trees at the Winnebago County Fair Grounds on Wednesday, May 4th from 4-6 p.m. for the Releaf Program.   If you help, you will receive hours toward the silver cord  award and also you will receive a free T-Shirt.  Let Mr. Huntington know a.s.a.p.  if you can be there.

 

The ASSET assessment will be given at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, April 20th in the Multi-purpose room.  Students who plan to take PSEO classes through Iowa Lakes next fall need to have an acceptable score on this assessment and must also be proficient on all core areas of the ITED testing in order to be eligible to take college courses.

If you currently are taking PSEO courses, then you already have taken the ASSET test and there is no need to retake it.  If you have taken the ASSET in  the past and did not score well, then this would be a good chance to retake it in order to have an acceptable score.  Also, If you are a Senior who is planning to go to community college and have not taken an admissions assessment then you are welcome to participate.  PLEASE Sign up in the guidance office by Tuesday noon for this opportunity.

 

Seniors—If you did not pick up your cap and gown, you may pay $10 to the business office and pick them up this week.

 

Students are reminded with warmer weather (soon to be) here to please dress appropriately.  If you have any questions, please refer to the student handbook for appropriate dress code.

 

Silver Cord Hours need to be turned in no later than Monday, May 2nd.

 

Students that make a college visit to an Iowa Private College during Private College Week, August 1-5, 2011, can receive a free music download.   Go to www.thinkindependently.com for information.    See Mr. Huntington or Holly Arnevik for your music download card. 

 

Last day to sign up for after prom is Wednesday 4/20. Doors will open at 11 pm and will be locked starting at midnight. Breakfast will be served starting at 4am with the big prizes being drawn for during breakfast.

 

Juniors and seniors who are attending prom may sign up for Grand March and tables for the meal in the high school media center now through next Wednesday, April 20th

 

Attention Seniors—If you still need to order graduation announcements, it’s not too late.  Herff Jones has a limited supply available on a first come, first served basis.  Please call 1-800-914-3733 for assistance. 

 

Reminder:  Please bring in your Senior Photos for the yearbook as soon as you can, or you can also email them to arnevik@northiowa.org.  You can submit two different poses.

 

FCCLA is sponsoring a Prom Style Show on Wed. May 4th at 7 p.m.   Everyone who would like to model in the show should pick up a description form from the office or the FCS room, and return it to Mrs. Larsen or e-mail it to her at larsen@northiowa.org.  Deadline is April 27th.

 

Scholarship opportunity—Two $100 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors who have been active in theater productions during their high school years.  You may pick up an application from Mrs. Hippen in the high school media center.  Applications are due May 2nd.

 

 “$500 Scholarship for NIACC by attending the free four day Youth Entrepreneurial Academy (YEA).  It is from Sunday, June 19 – Thursday, June 23rd.  You stay at the dorms during the week and all expenses are paid. Complete applications as soon as possible which are available in my office
