The last three years, North Iowa Schools have sponsored the “Pennies for Patients” Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Fund Drive.  We have had very successful campaigns where we raised an average of $3000 each year.  We have set a lofty goal of raising $4000 for this year.  The fund raising this year will run to Friday, March 11th.

Childhood leukemia and lymphoma are the most common types of cancer that face young children and adolescents.   Fortunately, they are also some of the most treatable cancers if detected early.  Funding is needed in a great many ways to help research these cancers and also to offer support for the children and families that must deal with the disease.    It is our hope that North Iowa Schools and communities can once again demonstrate a caring spirit and help in this effort.

Each class will have a canister in which students may donate any pennies or other change to the project. This year the younger students will be provided a donation box to aid in their collecting.  The grades that raise the most funds will be rewarded with a pizza party and also if individual classes raise at least $100 then their class will be awarded a pennant.  Bronze pennants will be given for $100 raised, Silver pennants for $200, and Gold pennants for $300 per classroom.

Reminder:  There are some students who have not turned in the student 9th period opt out form.  This form needs to be completed, signed by your parent, turned into the HS office if you wish to opt out of 9th hr. on Wednesdays and Fridays.  You can receive this form from your 9th period teacher/advisor or the HS office.

Also a reminder in regards to 9th period on Wednesdays and Fridays:  Any student with poor attendance, multiple tardies, unfulfilled detentions, and serious disciplinary violations will not be able to opt out of 9th period study hall those days.  If you have any questions, please talk to your teachers.

HS students:  With the new homework policy students will have 3 days to turn in homework assignments for any given class.  Any homework assignment not turned in before the 3 days will become a zero (no credit earned for that assignment).  Students who are absent fall under the make-up work policy where they have 2 days to get work made up.  Teachers can request that you stay after school with them or come to school early to get work completed.  Detention may be assigned to students who do not stay after or come early for a teacher.  Our ultimate goal is to improve on getting homework completed in a timely and adequate manner.  Talk to your teachers if you have any questions.

Seniors please bring your senior photos that you want in the yearbook to the high school office.  You can have one formal and one casual photo and if you want to email photos send to arnevik@northiowa.org

Happy birthday to Macy Heetland, MaKayla Heetland, and Chelsey Adams whose birthdays are today, February 18th.  Have a wonderful day!!
