The “Pennies for Patients” Program starts (Today) Friday, February 13 and will run until March 6 in which our school will be raising funds to help families whose children have been stricken with leukemia and lymphoma childhood cancers.   Monies raised goes to help families defray costs of transportation, lodging and meals while their child receives treatment and some of the funds helps research the leukemia and lymphoma cancers and their potential cures.

Last year our school raised over $2500 and our goal this year is to double our contributions from last year.  This year’s organizing committee consists of many members of the freshman class who are helping to raise funds in honor of one of their own classmates.  Garrett Asmus was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma just before Christmas and so our school is raising funds in his name for the “Lymphoma and Leukemia Society of Iowa”.

Once again there are incentives for the classes bringing in the most funds.  A pizza party will be given to the top group in Elementary, Middle and High Schools.  Also individual classes raising over $100 dollars will receive a bronze pennant for your classroom, over $200 will receive a silver pennant, and over $300 will receive a gold pennant.  Your classroom should have a collection can for this campaign and we encourage everyone to visit with friends, family, and community people about donating to this worthy cause.
