HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

            Friday, February 3, 2012        

 

Lunch today is:  Popcorn chicken, sandwich, fresh veggie w/dip, banana half.

 

We will have a Winter Athletics pep rally today, from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m.  All MS and HS students will report to the gymnasium (this is a change) after 8th period.  Students will sit on the south side the WEST END of bleachers.   Periods 6 through 8 will be shortened.  There will not be opt out day today.

 

Today all juniors will have a class meeting in the auditorium at 12:30.

 

Students should be done eating breakfast before 1st period.  You MUST EAT early enough to ensure you will make it to your first class on time!!

 

Students are reminded that they are not allowed to participate and/or attend school activities if they have missed that day of school or the last half of the school day.  Please ask Mr. Embrock if you have any questions in regards to this.

 

The bus for State Speech Contest will leave the school at 4:45 on Friday.  We will go to Osage to watch the Varsity Girls Game and leave for Dubuque right after the game. 

 

High School students who work with elementary students are reminded that there will be no MINI-NBA for the boys on Saturday, February 4th

 

Archery participants t-shirt order forms are available from Mr. Huntington and Mrs. Steffensen. They are due back on Tuesday.

 

Archery practice Tuesday morning at 7:15.

 

Monday is RODEO day. Wear your best western gear and help your Bison "rope the Broncos"! HIGH SCHOOL students will be allowed to wear Western Hats during school with a $1 donation to coaches v cancer. Donations should be made in the business office where you will receive your HAT PASS sticker for the day. WESTERN HATS ONLY. NO BASEBALL CAPS.

 

 

The lost and found box outside Mrs. Lawson’s kindergarten room (or in the elementary hall) is overflowing.  Please stop to pick up your lost items.

 

Musical auditions:  Auditions for parts with vocal solos or vocal small groups will be held today during 1st hour chorus and the beginning of 2nd period band.  If you are only interested in being in the chorus, you do not have to do a vocal audition.  This is a change from past years.  To sign up and receive audition material, see Mrs. Cook.

 

The High School and Middle School Media Centers are starting a book club.  We are planning on having our first book club meeting on Monday, Feb. 6t,h, 9th hour in the High School Media Center.  If you are interested in joining middle school students should sign up in the MS Media Center.  High school students sign up in the HS Media Center.  If you have any questions please see Mrs. Hamilton or Mrs. Mayland.  Hope to see a good turnout.   BE A READER

 

The FCCLA will be selling Valentine's day messages for $1.00 to be delivered to your sweetheart on February 14th, during 9th hour on a can of Crush soda.  We will start selling the messages on Wednesday during lunch.  To buy a message, be sure you know the homeroom of the recipient, and their flavor choice.  We will have orange, grape, and strawberry Crush.

 

Any FCCLA members who would like to see Valentine messages during lunch time should see Mrs. Larsen to get the blank labels and change. 

 

FCCLA members who would like to attend State leadership conference in March should pick up a packet of materials to fill out from Mrs. Larsen.  Materials need to be in to Mrs. Larsen by the 13th.

 

The FFA-FCCLA Sweetheart dance is going to be held from 8-11 PM on Saturday Feb. 11th.  Admission will be $3 for individual and $5 per couple.  Please sign up out of town dates in the principal's office as soon as possible. 

 

FCCLA members who signed up to bring refreshments are reminded that the dance is coming next weekend.

 

Congratulations to John Laflen for being selected for KIMT’s Giving Your Best Award for volunteerism!  John has volunteered for the North Iowa Community School District for several years.  Specifically, John has been a significant help and role model with the RSVP reading program.  He has served as a Reading Buddy for NICS since 2004.  The honor for John will be aired on KIMT on Thursday, February 2 at 6:00 pm.  You can also view John receiving this honor on this link- http://www.kimt.com/content/gyb/recipients.aspx - on KIMT’s website.  Congratulations John!

 

There is a Buffalo Center family in need after a house fire over the weekend.  Items needed are baby wipes, bottles, sippy cups, diapers-size 5, brushes, combs, tooth brushes, toothpaste, laundry soap, dryer sheets, pillows, shampoo and conditioner, baby shampoo, children’s plates, forks, spoons, books for elementary child and young child, school bag, diaper bags.  Clothes for boys size 7-8; girl clothes size 24 months or 2T; mother—size small, shirts and size 3/4 pants. Items for this family should be brought to Mrs. Lawson’s classroom.  Any money to help the McGrady family should be turned into Sheryl Davids in the Business Office.

 

Driver’s Education Sign-up:

North Iowa is offering one session of classes and 2 options for student driving times.  Class sessions for all students will begin March 3rd and will run through May 12th.  You can attend classes without a driving permit as long as you hold a driving permit before your first scheduled drive.  The deadline to signup is February 24th.   Cost is $220 (in district) and $240 (out of district). 

 

8th period students in strengthening and conditioning class need to check a schedule that is posted in the gym lobby.

 

Seniors can submit two senior photos for the yearbook, one more formal photo and the other casual if you would like.  The photos can be emailed to arnevik@northiowa.org   or the photos can be brought to the guidance office at the high school.  Please submit the photos as soon as possible.   

 

Reminder—We will make up our 2 snow days on April 5th and April 6th.

 

Happy birthday today, February 3rd, to Kenny Halvorson.  Also happy birthday to Nate Albrant whose birthday is Sunday, February 5th.  Hope you both have great birthdays!!
