Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a great holiday break and are ready for 2008.  Our first semester has been positive thus far.  Let’s finish the 1st Semester strong.  Make sure you are talking to your teachers and getting all of your work turned in.  The 1st Semester will end on Friday, January 11 (an ‘A’ day) and we will have a 1:50 pm dismissal.  You should have your 2nd Semester schedule set.  If not, you need to talk to Mr. Huntington or Mr. Embrock as soon as possible.  The 2nd Semester will be starting on Monday, January 14 and will be a ‘B’ day.  If you have any questions, please ask your teachers of talk to the HS office.  Have a great rest of the semester and start 2008 on a positive note.

 

Seniors:  Today you will be voting for your class flower during seminar and/or lunch.  Voting will be done online.  You need to vote before 3 p.m. today.

 

Juniors will have a class meeting today during Seminar in the multi-purpose room.

 

Student Council members:  We will have our first Hoop Shoot tonight.  Please make yourself available at the basketball games tonight.

 

FFA and 4-H members remember tomorrow morning is the weigh-in for all market beef projects. You can weigh at the Kenny Balvance farm or at the Cow Palace in Forest City. Both sites will weigh from 9:00 till 11:00 a.m.

 

Students that completed certification for BLS (CPR) need to check the list to make sure they have given Mrs. Aukes payment and/or registration information which may include the last 4 digits of your SS#.   Copies of the list may be found in the HS office, on the outside of Mrs. Aukes office door,  inside the locker rooms or with Mr. Pitt.  Please see Mrs. Aukes for any questions.  Registration paperwork will be sent in on TUESDAY, Jan. 8th.

 

We will have an assembly on Tuesday, January 15 at 8:30 am in the Auditorium.

 

Extra Help sessions are provided in the Study Center room on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:00 pm for students wanting/needing some extra help with homework.  Most high school teachers are available before or after school to work with you as well.  If you need extra help with homework or need some guidance on assignments, the Extra Help sessions could be very helpful for you.  If transportation is a factor and keeps you from staying after school to get help, you are welcome to ride the shuttle bus.  Make sure you are doing everything you can to get homework and assignments completed and taking care of your academics.

 

We will host the ACT test on Saturday, February 9th.  Early registration deadline is this Friday, January 4th.  Register on-line at www.actstudent.org   Our high school code number is 160-535 and that goes on block L. 

 

The test center code for NIHS is 167260 and that would go on block N.

 

You may register on-line or use the forms that Mr. Huntington has.  They must be mailed by the end of the day Friday, January 4th.

Any student interested in being on the stage or technical crew for the musical please sign up on the sheet that is in the high school media center.  Sign your name and what job you are interested in.  Mrs. Blodgett will have a meeting at the end of next week.

 

FFA members, remember to have the rest of your fruit money turned in to Mr. Gerzema today.   He is available during 1st seminar and before and after school.

 

FFA members working the concession stand Friday night are: Stetson Badje, Ben Matson, Shelby Heetland, Janie Penning, and Brent Price.Please be at the stand at 6:10. thanks. Workers for Monday night are: Dylan Balvance, Brett Stenerson, Ashley O'Connell, and Kirsten Johnson.

 

Most of the North Iowa jackets have arrived. A few needed to be returned for embroidery reasons and have not been shipped back to the school yet. Please check with Sheryl Davids to see if yours is in.

 

Students make sure you have your planner/passport when transitioning when in the halls or signing out somewhere.

 

Mini NBA starts Sat., Jan 5th with the boys in grades 3 - 6 starting at 8:30 followed by the girls at 9:40.
