There is a Hunter
Education Class being offered on Saturdays, March 26th and April 9th.
Students must attend both sessions. The class will be held at the
Thompson school on those days. Students must register online on the Iowa
DNR website for the class. Students must be 11 years old to attend.
See Mr. Huntington or email at huntingtonb@northiowa.org
if you would like to participate. There is no cost for the class.
Space is limited to the first 24 students registered.
The last three years, North Iowa Schools have sponsored the “Pennies for
Patients” Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Fund Drive. We have had very
successful campaigns where we raised an average of $3000 each year. We
have set a lofty goal of raising $4000 for this year. The fundraising
this year will run from Monday, February 14th to Friday, March 11th.
Childhood leukemia and lymphoma are the most common
types of cancer that face young children and adolescents. Fortunately,
they are also some of the most treatable cancers if detected early.
Funding is needed in a great many ways to help research these cancers and also
to offer support for the children and families that must deal with the
disease. It is our hope that North Iowa Schools and
communities can once again demonstrate a caring spirit and help in this effort.
Each class will have a canister in which students
may donate any pennies or other change to the project. This year the younger
students will be provided a donation box to aid in their collecting. The
grades that raise the most funds will be rewarded with a pizza party and also
if individual classes raise at least $100 then their class will be awarded a
pennant. Bronze pennants will be given for $100 raised, Silver pennants
for $200, and Gold pennants for $300 per classroom.
