GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

A) BOARD GOALS

It is the goal of the North Iowa Community School District to encourage maximum community involvement in all district activities/decisions and as a result developing a pride in ownership by all community members and all patrons of the district.

 

B) ANNUAL PROGRESS GOAL

Culture Climate for Learning

Long Term Goal: North Iowa students will treat each other respectfully.

Annual Goal: The percent of students responding 3 or higher on question 6 of the Building Tomorrow Survey will increase.

 

C)  December 21 was an outstanding Professional Development Day.

 

D)  January 2 is also a  Professional Development Day.    We meet at the middle school from 8:00-4:00.  Main topics: Character Education Implementation,  Iowa Model Core Curriculum,  District-wide Committee meetings, Curriculum Team meetings.

 

E) Faculty Forum ---- Wednesday, January 9 ---- HS Media Center ---4:00-5:00.

 

F)  Weather announcements are listed on the following radio stations:

KIOW, KJLY,  KFMC, KGLO, KLSS/KRIB, KLGA, KBEW.

KIMT- TV 3 is the television station we notify.

We also utilize the parent alert system (e-mail or text message) and the district Homepage to notify parents, students, employees and the public regarding weather announcements.

 

G)Begin 2008 by implementing a Character Education lesson every two weeks in your classroom.  Make the commitment to carry forth Rachel’s Challenge in our school daily.

I) Teacher Lesson Plans need to entered on-line each Friday.

 

J)  SharePoint assignments are not suggestions ---- they are an expectation of all faculty.   Learn to use the technology.

                             

K)  ZERO  TOLERANCE  on the playground for fighting, arguing, teasing, or rough play.

 

L)  Friday, January 11 is the end of the first semester.   There is a 1:30/1:50 dismissal.

 

M) Saturday,  January 12 is the Design Team Retreat

 

N)  Tuesday, January 15 we will host the Latin group Alborada.   This is the group which was snowed out twice last year.  We will gather in the gym at 8:30 for the K-Prep-Grade 12 presentation.

 

Italian Tomato Salad

 

4 large ripe tomatoes                                                           10 oz. mozzarella cheese

4 tbs. olive oil                                                                       8 large fresh basil leaves

Salt and ground black pepper

 

Chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes then eat right away.

1. Using a serrated knife, cut the tomatoes in half and cut out their cores.  Lay each half on its flat side then slice them as finely as you can.

2. Arrange the tomatoes on four plates.  Drizzle a tablespoon of oil over each serving, then sprinkle with a pinch of salt and of pepper, too.

3. Put the mozzarella onto the cutting board.  Use the knife to cut the mozzarella in half, then cut each half into thin slices.

4. Lay the slices of mozzarella among the sliced tomatoes.  Then, tear the basil leaves into thin strips and sprinkle them over the top.

5. Cover the plates with plastic foodwrap and put them into the refrigerator for about 30 minutes, Then, unwrap them and serve.
