GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

A) BOARD GOALS

It is the goal of the North Iowa Community School District to provide learners with the safest, inviting, structurally sound, and educationally rich learning environment possible within the limits of the district’s financial standing.

 

B) ANNUAL PROGRESS GOALS

Science

Long Term Goal: All K-12 students will achieve at high levels in science, prepared for success beyond high school.

 

Annual Goal: The percent of students in grades 6, 8 and 11 that score at the intermediate level or higher will increase (ITBS, ITED) or the percent of students scoring proficient (3 or higher) will increase from fall to spring on the district science assessment (grades 5-8 and 10).

D)  All grades will have Christmas parties.   Get parents involved.   Let the office know which parents will be helping at your Christmas party.    Contact Rena to take pictures at your Christmas party.  Let the office know your Christmas Party plans ---- video,  lunch,  games,  times,  etc.

 

E)  High School Christmas Concert ---- December 18 ----- You will really enjoy it.

 

F) ALL elementary teachers are required to have lesson plans posted electronically every week.  

 

G) December 21  Staff Development.  The a.m. is working on strategies with our training team.  Lunch is on your own.   The p.m. will be spent at building-level teams.

 

H)   January 3 Staff Development Day will be held at the middle school.   The bulk of the day will be spent working on standards and benchmarks.   Each teacher will be working on a curriculum team.   While on your team you will make decisions regarding benchmarks in that area and help map out the scope and sequence of those benchmarks.  This is a “POWER  OF  ATTORNEY” approach and by working on one team you are entrusting all other curriculum content to your colleagues. The decisions they make will be presented to the whole group BUT we will all honor their work and support it.

     The Elementary Curriculum Teams are:

            MATH:  L.Hagedorn, G. Eichenberger, C. Lockrem, J. Jutting, L. Huntington

            SCIENCE:  D. Jacobson,           C. Blodgett,  M. Leerar
        SOCIAL STUDIES:   A. Twait,   S. Keil,   S. Sime
        LANGUAGE  ARTS/READING:   L. Oldenkamp, C. Brooks,  D. Hobbs,  M. Giesking

     You will want to bring with your materials so you are ready to make decisions regarding K-Prep-Grade 4 benchmark decisions in your specific content area.  This is an awesome responsibility.

 

I)  SPECIAL  EDUCATION  teachers meet with Sarah Knudson at 3:00 on January 3 in the Elementary Media Center.   Sarah will provide this mandatory training for all Special Education teachers.

 

J)First semester ends January 12, 2007.    That is a 1:10 dismissal with 1:30 rural routes.

L) PHONICS ---- PHONICS ----- PHONICS

 

M) Personal leave is dependent on the availability of  a substitute.  Plan ahead.

 

N)TIMES  TO  BE  AWARE  OF:

A.M. RECESS:  15 minutes in length …. K-2 = 9:45-10:00 …. Grades 3-4 = 10:05-10:20

NOON  RECESS: 30 minutes in length

END OF THE DAY:   Thompson shuttle students dismissed at 3:25 (no sooner)departure at 3:33 ------Rural Route and town students released to go home or the playground at 3:28 (no sooner) ---- After school recess supervisors will blow the whistle to line up at 3:44 (set your watch by the atomic clocks) departure at 3:48.

 

O)  North Iowa Community School District All District—All School Reunion will take place July 8, 2007.  This is the 110th anniversary of the First Consolidation of a school district west of the Mississippi River and only the second in the nation.  If you have a name, e-mail, and/or address for an alumni member or former faculty member of Lakota, Thompson, Rake, or Buffalo Center please pass that information on to Barb Weaver.  Are you willing to serve on one of the committees?   Visit with Pam Angstman, Charlie Smith, Fairy Florence, or Barb Weaver.
