GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

A) ESSENTIAL LEARNINGS

North Iowa students will use good problem solving skills.  Successful problem solvers:

      *apply skills to real life situations,

      *learn from past experiences,

      *use a variety of appropriate technology,

      *demonstrates appropriate risk taking,

      *demonstrates flexibility in their thinking,

      *shows conflict management skills

 

B) ANNUAL PROGRESS GOAL

Culture Climate for Learning

Long Term Goal: North Iowa students will treat each other respectfully.

Annual Goal: The percent of students responding 3 or higher on question 6 of the Building Tomorrow Survey will increase.

 

C)  You will be asked in the next couple of weeks to administer a survey of your students regarding respect.   This is a pre-test.   The post-test survey will take place next spring.

 

D) Parents with children in grades 2 – 4 will have an opportunity to meet with the Boy Scout recruiter in the Multi-Purpose room at 5:00 p.m. on November 1.

 

E) Remember to complete your Rachel’s Challenge assignment  AND  your Bullying/Harassment Training assignment.

 

F)  Parenting Fair ---- November 13.

 

G)   Grandparent’s Day --- November 16 – 8:30 a.m.

 

H)  The Bullying/Harassment Training went very well the last three week.  We had six sessions so people could choose the attend the session which worked best for them.

 

I) Be at the recess door to walk your class back to your room. 

Recess supervisors need to hold the students until the teacher arrives to lead them.

 

J)  Parent-Teacher Conferences are October 30 and November 1 from 4:00-8:00.  We want 100% attendance. If a parent can not come to conferences please set up an appointment for another time or at least hold the conference via the telephone.

 

K)  Line Basics when in the hallway.

 

L)  No School November 21 ---- Teacher Inservice.

 

M)  ZERO  TOLERANCE  on the playground for fighting, arguing, teasing, or rough play.

 

 N) Character Education lessons ---- implement one lesson every two weeks in your classroom.   Be sure to document which lessons you have used in the binder in the Elem. Media Center.

VEGETABLE STIR-FRY

 

2 zucchini                              For the sauce:

1 red or yellow pepper         1 tsp. cornflour

1 carrot                                   1Tbs. light soy sauce

4 oz baby corn                      2 Tbs. water

4 oz snow peas                     2 Tbs. cooking oil

4 green onions                      a pinch of sugar

2-3 Tbs. vegetable oil

1 clove of garlic, crushed    eat on its own or with boiled rice or noodles.

4 oz fresh bean sprouts

 

1. Cut the ends off the zucchini.  Cut them in half, then into strips.  Cut the strips into pieces about 2 inches long.

2. Cut the ends off the pepper and cut it in half.  Scrape out the seeds and white bits inside, then cut it into thin slices.

3. Peal the Carrot, then cut off the ends.  Slice it finely.  Then, cut the ends off the baby corns and cut them in half lengthways.

4. Using clean kitchen scissors, snip the ends off the snow peas.  Then, cut each snow pea into several smaller pieces.

5. Cut the ends off the green onions.  Remove the outer layer, then cut the onions diagonally into 2 inch slices.

6. Put the cornflower into a cup.  Mix it with a few drops of water, to make a paste.  Stir in the rest of the sauce ingredients.

7. Heat the oil in a frying pan or wok on a medium heat.  Add the zucchini, pepper and carrot, then cook them for 3 minutes.  Stir the vegetables quickly with a wooden spoon.

8. Add the baby corn, garlic and green onions.  Cook them for a minute, then add the snow peas and bean sprouts.  Keep stirring the vegetables as they cook.

9. Cook everything for 3 minutes.  Then stir the sauce and pour it into the pan.  Stir it in well, to coat all the vegetables.
