GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

A) ESSENTIAL LEARNINGS

North Iowa students will use good problem solving skills.  Successful problem solvers

*demonstrate self-sufficiency/self-directed learning,

*demonstrate appropriate use of resources,

*demonstrate adaptability to various situations,

*demonstrate perseverance.

 

B) ANNUAL PROGRESS GOALS

Math

Long Term Goal: All K-12 students will achieve at high levels in mathematics, prepared for success beyond high school.

Annual Goal: The percent of students scoring proficient (70%) on the district Computation Test (grades 2-8) and the district Algebra Test (grade 10) will increase using two-year averaging..

 

C) Teachers please announce to your students that a girls “MUDD” jacket size 8-10, Navyblue, white, light green was found at the football game last Friday.

 

D)   A few days have passed.   What stands out in your mind as you reflect back on the message from Murray Banks last Wednesday?    Whay have you carried over to your classroom?  Has the message impacted how you work with co-workers?

 

E)  PHONICS ---- PHONICS ----- PHONICS

 

F) Math Benchmarks ----- we need to schedule an after school work session for K-2 and 3-4 teams.   We need to narrow the broad list of benchmarks under each of the math standards.    Work together to set up a time.  Once that list is complete we will meet as a K-Prep  through Grade 4 team.  Following that meeting we will hold the district-wide K-12 math meeting to finalize the narrowing and begin the alignment process and assessment alignment processs.   We are making great progress.

 

 G) Next Elementary Faculty Meeting is Thursday, October 26.

 

H)  NOVEMBER 3  is no school ---- it is a Comp Day.

 

I) November 3 will be a mandatory training for all Special Education teachers district-wide. The afternoon will be spent with Sarah Knudson. The training will lead up to the mandatory file review later this school year.  This is a vitally important meeting for our entire district.

 

J) Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences will be October 30 (a Monday) and November 2 (a Thursday).

 

K) The First Quarter ends October 25.

           

L) This is School Bus Safety Week.   Each class will receive a packet of activities from Rena on Monday.   The “DEAR  BUS  DRIVER” letters will be written by grades 2 and 3.  The letters will be delivered to each driver on Thursday morning at a coffee for the drivers in the Commons at 8:30.    Each letter schould be addressed to the student’s driver and the letters will be separated into packets by 4th grade students.   Students who do not ride a bus will write generic letters regarding how important the driver is to have on field trips.    Each driver will get a packet of letters.

 

M) Personal leave is dependent on the availability of  a substitute.  Plan ahead.

 

N)   Tuesday, October 24 ----- Retake Day

 Lifetouch Picture Retake Day (for any staff or students absent 8/28/06 or wanting a retake)

Start out at BC – 8:30 a.m. (elementary then high school students)

Go to Thompson after that – should be about mid-morning

                                                                                                                                                                                

O)TIMES  TO  BE  AWARE  OF:

A.M. RECESS:  15 minutes in length …. K-2 = 9:45-10:00 …. Grades 3-4 = 10:05-10:20

NOON  RECESS: 30 minutes in length

END OF THE DAY:   Thompson shuttle students dismissed at 3:25 (no sooner)departure at 3:33 ------Rural Route and town students released to go home or the playground at 3:28 (no sooner) ---- After school recess supervisors will blow the whistle to line up at 3:44 (set your watch by the atomic clocks) departure at 3:48.

 

P)  North Iowa Community School District All District—All School Reunion will take place July 8, 2007.  This is the 110th anniversary of the First Consolidation of a school district west of the Mississippi River and only the second in the nation. All fundraising will be forwarded to the Auditorium Renovation Project. If you have a name, e-mail, and/or address for an alumni member or former faculty member of Lakota, Thompson, Rake, or Buffalo Center please pass that information on to Barb Weaver.  Are you willing to serve on one of the committees?   Visit with Pam Angstman, Charlie Smith, Fairy Florence, or Barb Weaver.
