interdependence of the world’s people and their effect on the world’s
environment.

C)
*In 1937, school boards in 15 states
instituted lunchrooms to serve food at cost, though debates continued regarding
how much taxpayers should cover, and how much families with school children
should pay.
*In 1946, the National School Lunch Act was
signed into law, shifting focus from hunger to nutrition, categorizing
different levels of lunch provision not just by quantity but by nutrient
content.
*In 1962, National School Lunch Week was
established and begins on the second Sunday of October each year.
*In 1946, 7.1 million kids ate lunch from
school programs at a cost of $70 million.
In 2006 that number rose to 30.1 million with an annual cost of over $8
billion.
*An interesting, if lesser-known, aspect of
the school lunch program is that the USDA procures food surpluses, including
fresh produce, from the Department of Defense.
A healthy lunch is important to students so
they can re-fuel for afternoon classes.
In recent years, school lunch menus have been designed in an attempt to
reduce the amount of fats, sodium, and sugars in the foods.
D) You will be asked in the next couple of weeks to
administer a survey of your students regarding respect. This is a pre-test. The post-test survey will take place next
spring.
E) Picture retakes are October 18
F) As part of Rachel’s Challenge you each made a commitment to

K) Line Basics when in the

L) The little boy wasn't getting good marks in
school. One day he made the teacher quite surprised. He tapped her on the
shoulder and said ..."I don't want to scare you, but my daddy says if I
don't get better grades, somebody is going to get a spanking."
M) Thank you for supporting all
students in their co-curricular activities.
It means a great deal to the students and the co-curricular sponsors.
N) ZERO TOLERANCE
on the playground for fighting, arguing, teasing, or rough play.
O) TRIVIA:
In Shakespeare's time,
mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes.
When
you pulled on the ropes the mattress tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep
on. Hence the phrase......... "goodnight, sleep tight."
HOT
DISH / CASSEROLE:

juice concentrate, onion powder, salt and cayanne.
