GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

A) BROAD PROGRAM GOALS

We must create a caring environment in which academic learning is a top priority and students are committed to lifelong learning.  As a community of learners and educators it is our responsibility to mold a learning environment that is centered on student needs and committed to helping every learner reach her/his greatest potential.

 

B) ANNUAL PROGRESS GOAL

Math

Long Term Goal: All K-12 students will achieve at high levels in mathematics, prepared for success beyond high school.

Annual Goal: The percent of students scoring proficient (70%) on the district Computation Test (grades 2-8) and the district Algebra Test (grade 10) will increase using two-year averaging..

 

C) Marlys Ebaugh will be here to do hearing follow ups on Monday 9-17-07.  Students will be called out of class as needed.  She will be in Mrs. Aukes’ office in BC at 9:00 a.m. She will be at the middle school in Thompson at about 11:00 a.m.  Please let Mrs. Aukes know if there are any students that you have hearing concerns about.  Thank you.

 

D) Please mark your calendars for the following dates for vision, heights and weights.  Let me know if a time does not work for you.  Location Deb's office and elementary media center (if it is available).  Please accompany your students down to my office for screening.  They students could bring a book to read in the hallway while they wait for their tests.  As a group finishes, I will send them with you back to your room.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.  Deb

E) Teachers, if you are making any changes to your report cards get those to Rena by Wednesday.  Report card orders will go in the van mail Thursday morning.

 

F)  Homecoming 2007 is upon us.  

     Mrs. Berschman will provide the elementary faculty with a schedule of activities.  The main impact on the elementary is the pep rally and parade on Friday.

 

G)  PEP  RALLY  SCHEDULE:

     1:21 …… preschool arrives and sits along east wall facing west

     1:22 ….. 4TH grade arrives at the gym

     1:24 …..  Kindergarten arrives at the gym

     1:25 ……3rd grade arrives at the gym

     1:26 ….. 2nd grade arrives at the gym

     1:27 ….. 1st grade arrives at the gym

     We will sit on the floor as we have done in the past.  

     Once the parade is over ----- each grade (1-4) will move toward the playground ----- grades 2, 3, & 4 will exit using the west gym doors and re-enter through the Grand Hallway to get to the playground where you will organize your class.

     Mr. Hill will coordinate the parade order in the street on the east side of the school.

 

H) Make sure you have ID stickers on your Kindergarten and First Grade students with the bus they ride home on the rural route.    The Thompson rural route and town buses will load on the south side of the high school facing west.

 

I)   Punt, Pass, and Kick is on the football field following the parade.   Students who will not be riding the bus need to have a note from parents regarding staying for the event.

 

J) Thursday, September 20, we will host Charlie Wittmack for an assembly in the auditorium.  Mr. Wittmack is the first Iowan to climb Mt. Everest.   He will speak to grades 4 – 12.   The assembly will begin at 2:15.  The 4th grade will go to the auditorium and sit on the east side downstairs.   Please move the 4th grade to the auditorium about 2:05.  The assembly will last until about 3:15.

 

K) Elementary Faculty Meeting --- Tuesday, September 25, 3:45

 

L)  SEPTEMBER 20 WILL BE A FULL DAY OF SCHOOL ------ Staff Development will be moved to  Thursday, September 27 ---- 1:30/1:50 dismissal

 

M) Be at the recess door to walk your class back to your room. 

Recess supervisors need to hold the students until the teacher arrives to lead them.

 

N)  Line Basics when in the hallway.

 

O) Fantastic meeting last week regarding Literacy.   Thank you to Diane Jacobson for being our lead person and hosting us in her classroom.

 

P) October10 is our North Iowa Conference Professional Development Day at NIACC.   The planning committee will be meeting in the very near future to put the final touches on the day and the follow-up.  Daryl Scott will be our keynote speaker.  His daughter was Rachel Scott.  Rachel was the first child killed in the Columbine High School shootings in late April, 1999.  The following day a team of trainers from the Rachel Scott Foundation will work with our middle school students.  This all ties directly to the Bullying/Harassment conversations we have had and our new policy.

 

Q) In the next few days schedule an appointment to meet with me to discuss your Professional Development Goal and your Team Goal.   

 

R)  ZERO  TOLERANCE  on the playground for fighting, arguing, teasing, or rough play.

 

S) September 29 is “Soaring and Exploring” at NIACC.

 

T) Our Internal District Technology Committee meets October 4.
