GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

A) BROAD PROGRAM GOALS

We must help students understand and acquire the skills, knowledge, attitudes, and values necessary to participate in a democratic society..

 

B) ANNUAL PROGRESS GOALS

Math

Long Term Goal: All K-12 students will achieve at high levels in mathematics, prepared for success beyond high school.

Annual Goal: The percent of students scoring proficient (70%) on the district Computation Test (grades 2-8) and the district Algebra Test (grade 10) will increase using two-year averaging.

 

C) It is unbelievable how much you do for our students.   Thank you for taking time to go the extra mile especially with students who may struggle with a concept or a behavior issue.  You are helping shape our future citizens and leaders. Thank you for all you do.

 

D)HOMECOMING 2006  is behind us.  Thank you for all the help, understanding, and cooperation in making this a good experience for all children.

 

 E) NO we do not allow full contact football or soccer on our playground.

 

F)  North Iowa Community School District All District—All School Reunion will take place in 2007.  This is the 110th anniversary of the First Consolidation of a school district west of the Mississippi River and only the second in the nation.  If you have a name, e-mail, and/or address for an alumni member or former faculty member of Lakota, Thompson, Rake, or Buffalo Center please pass that information on to Barb Weaver.  Are you willing to serve on one of the committees?   Visit with Pam Angstman, Charlie Smith, Fairy Florence, or Barb Weaver.

 

G)  We had a surprise visit from the Deputy Director of Education for Iowa this past week.   You should be very proud.  He spoke highly of our district, our programming, our communications effort with the public, our school board professional development, and especially what we have done with the structures and facilities to create the best possible teaching and learning environment.  CONGRATULATIONS  FOR  ALL  YOU  DO!

 

H) Be sure to review fire drill and tornado procedures with your students.

 

.I)  Be sure to get assessment results to Mike Evans as soon as you have calculated the scores.

 

J) Vicki Berschman will get a new copy of your fire / tornado exit map in the near future. 

Post the new map above your main exit door or very near the door.

 

K)  Remember to meet with Mr. Hill regarding your professional growth goal for 2006-2007.  Set up an appointment in the days following our faculty meeting.  Mr. Hill needs to keep a photo copy (front and back) on file so be sure to bring your original and a copy for both of us to sign.

 

L)   Tuesday, September 26 we will host the Fire Safe House.  Grades 2 – 4 will take part in the demonstration.   Grades K-Prep – Grade 1 will do an activity with the fire department during Fire Safety Week.

N)  We are working on a master electronic calendar for all events and room reservations made by internal and external groups.  This will include the ICN, multi-purpose room, Commons, media centers, old cafeteria, and auditorium.  This would give you immediate access to availability of facilities when you are planning activities or events.

 

O) “Soaring and Exploring” takes place September 30.  If you plan to attend we need to get your registered in the near future.

 

P)  Personal leave is dependent on the availability of  a substitute.  Plan ahead.

 

Q) ‘Cyber Citizens of the World Wide Web”   is a play sponsored by the Iowa Department of Education.  The play is geared toward grades 3 – 6.   The play will be webcast to our school on October 4, from 10:30-11:30.  Our 3rd and 4th grade will take part.  The focus of the webcast play is to drive home the importance of InterNet safety.  This has been a thrust of our district presentation team in recent months. 

 

R)  BODY  BASICS  in the hallway.   Orderly lines and quiet voices.   If it takes a few times of practice to master that expectation feel free to repeat the lesson over and over again. THIS IS A MAJOR FOCUS FOR OUR ENTIRE ELEMENTARY STAFF FOR 2006-2007

END OF THE DAY:   Thompson shuttle students dismissed at 3:25 (no sooner)departure at 3:33 ------Rural Route and town students released to go home or the playground at 3:28 (no sooner) ---- After school recess supervisors will blow the whistle to line up at 3:44 (set your watch by the atomic clocks) departure at 3:48.
