GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

A) ESSENTIAL LEARNINGS

North Iowa students will practice good citizenship.  Good citizens:

      *demonstrate responsibility and active participation in the democratic community.

      *demonstrate effective use of social skills,

      *shows responsibility for themselves, to others, and to the world.

 

B) ANNUAL PROGRESS GOAL

Science

Long Term Goal: All K-12 students will achieve at high levels in science, prepared for success beyond high school.

Annual Goal: The percent of students in grades 6, 8 and 11 that score at the intermediate level or higher will increase (ITBS, ITED) or the percent of students scoring proficient (3 or higher) will increase from fall to spring on the district science assessment (grades 5-8 and 10).

 

C) Classroom teachers, please give Rena your dates for spring field trips this week.

 

D) Remember to bring all the Lifetouch pictures returned and money that you have to the office by the end of the day, Wednesday the 16th.

 

E)  GREAT  IDEAS !!!   Your input on potential changes for the 2008-2009 school year are greatly appreciated. 

    Staffing, placement of classrooms, curriculum, teaming, recess, specials,  etc ------ all ideas have merit. 

    The more we put our heads together the better we can help shape a great learning environment for our children. 

    Not everyone’s ideas can be implemented but at least we are getting some good idea out on the table and talked about.

H) Please e-mail your recommendation to Mr. Hill for your grade-level special events for 2008-2009 --- date, time, event.    The calendar committee will meet in the next few days.

 

I) Next elementary faculty meeting is April 24 in the Elementary Media Center ---- 7:30 a.m..

 

J)  The tornado drill went well last week.  Super job preparing your students.

 

K) During April we host four track meets.  Please consider contacting Mr. Ewest and volunteering to run an event.  The meets are April 10-April 15, April 17, April 22, and April 25.

We also host the  NORTH  IOWA  CONFERENCE  CO-ED  TRACK  MEET ON MAY 5.

                             

L)  ZERO  TOLERANCE  on the playground for fighting, arguing, teasing, or rough play.

 M) April 29 we will host a Volunteers Appreciation Lunchean in the Commons.  If you have volunteers who assist in your classroom please make sure Sheryl D. has their name.

N) Classroom/department/grade level budgets will come out in the near future.  Funds are getting tighter.  Prioritize needs.  The new reading series will take up a huge chunk of the district funding.

Spaghetti Bolognese

 

1 onion                                     1 cup boiling water

1 carrot                                                14 oz. can chopped tomatoes

1 stick of celery                                    1 tsp. Italian seasoning

2 tbs. olive oil                                       6 oz. can tomato paste

1 clove of garlic, crushed                      2 pinches of salt and of ground black pepper

1 lb. extra-lean ground beef                  14 oz. dried spaghetti

1 beef or vegetable bouillon cube

 

Eat right away.  Serve with grated Parmesan cheese sprinkled over the top.

 

1.Peel the onion, cut it in half and chop it finely,  Peel the carrot with a potato peeler.  Cut it in half, then chop it finely.

2. Slice and chop the celery.  Put the onion and oil into a large saucepan.  Cook them on medium heat for 5 minutes.

3. Add the garlic, carrot and celery.  Cook all the vegetables for 2 minutes, stirring them all the time with a wooden spoon.  Then, add the beef.

4. Cook the beef for about 10 minutes, or until it is brown all over, stirring all the time .  Break up any lunps with the wooden spoon.

5. Put the bouillon cube into a heatproof container.  Add the boiling water and stir everything well until the cube dissolves, then add the broth to the pan.

6. Add the tomatoes, seasoning, tomato paste, salt and pepper.  Boil the sauce, then reduce the heat, so it bubbles gently.

7. Put a lid onto the pan, leaving a small gap to let out the steam.  Cook the sauce for 40 minutes, stirring it often.  Remove the lid and cook it for 10 more minutes.

8. While the sauce cooks, boil a saucepan of water.  Then, cook the spaghetti following the instructions on the package.  Carefully push the spaghetti into the water.

9. Drain the spaghetti through a colander.  Spoon it into bowls then spoon the Bolognese sauce over the top.
