GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

A) BROAD PROGRAM GOALS

We must create a caring environment in which academic learning is a top priority and students are committed to lifelong learning.  As a community of learners and educators it is our responsibility to mold a learning environment that is centered on student needs and committed to helping every learner reach her/his greatest potential.

B) ANNUAL PROGRESS GOALS

Reading

Long Term Goal: All K-12 students will achieve at high levels in reading comprehension, prepared for success beyond high school.

 

Annual Goal: To increase percent of students in grades 3-8 and 10 scoring at or above grade level on the vocabulary subtest of the Gates MacGinitie Reading Assessment.

 

C)   “Technology is the tool which has changed  learning environment more than the 16 millimeter projector or film strip projector ever did.  It is our charge to tame technology to be a tool for instructional improvement and not just a fancy gadget. ”   Murray Banks,  October 11, 2006

 

. D) Next School Board meeting is February 12.  Prior to the meeting will be a presentation by Prairie Ridge Chemical Dependency Center.

 

E)  Remember every teacher was to have 5 reading and 5 technology strategies recorded on-line by Wed. Jan. 31st.  Are you on schedule?

 

F)   “ALBORADA” assembly will be  Monday, February 12, at 8:30 a.m..

     

G) Next  DINNER  WITH  DAD” will be Thursday, February 22.

 

. H)  “Coins From Compassionate Kids” is a campaign to raise funds for the North Iowa Ministerial Association and to send books about Iowa to school in Bilouxi, Mississippi. Each class will compete to raise the most money.   The winning classroom will have a party at the end of the day on February 12.

 

I)  Our next Elementary Faculty meeting is Tuesday, February 13.  We will meet in the Elem. Media Center at 3:40.

 Tentatively the dates for our spring meetings will be March 13, March 28, April 10, May 1, and May 15. 

Remember when you are presenting  with your group around the book study.

 

. J)  There once was a lady who had identical twin boys, named Amal and Juan. She could not care for them so she gave them up for adoption. One couple adopted Juan and moved to Spain. Another couple adopted Amal and moved to Iraq. Ten years later Juan sent his birth mother a letter and a picture of himself. The mother told her husband she wished Amal would send her a picture too. The husband said, "Well, when you've seen Juan, you've seen Amal"!!!

 

 

 

K) BOOK  STUDY  FORMAT:   10-15 minutes of team-led discussion regarding the chapter followed by an activity which challenges us to implement something learned in that portion of the book.   Each elementary faculty member will share their implementation.  

Every faculty member will take part in the book study.

Those taking the book study for credit will have extra things to complete.

M) Personal leave is dependent on the availability of  a substitute.  Plan ahead.

 

N) Little Known Fact:

If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle. If the horse has one front leg in the air the person died as a result of wounds received in battle. If the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural causes.        

 

O) Kindergarten Circus is coming soon !!!!!

 

P) The auditorium project  is drawing to an end. 

It looks great but has been a huge undertaking. 

We are fortunate to have access to such a facility.

It is going to be good to have it back in use again.

 

Q)  February 16 is a full day of school and a make-up day for November 10.
