● Kindergarten Circus ---- Friday, January 30.  This is a huge event for our Kindergarten students.  We all wish Mrs. Sime success in this memorable event.

● Budget Task Force Meeting ---- Monday, January 26.  The Task Force volunteers will meet in the Elem. Media Center.   Thank you to all those who volunteered and have been approved by the school board.

Next elementary faculty meeting is Wednesday, January 28 rather than January 21.  This is a 7:30 a.m. meeting.

● Iowa Test of Basic Skills testing will take place the week of February 2.  The kitchen staff has put together a wonderful menu of treats for students each day and will make every attempt to have them to your classroom by 8:30 each day to use at the time you feel is most appropriate for your group.

● Prior to taking each test take a moment to go through a set of stretching exercises and perhaps a short hike around the classroom.  Now that everyone has blood pumping begin the test.

● Next FACULTY FORUM is set for Thursday, February 12.

● We will host the North Iowa Ministerial Association here for lunch and their regular meeting on Tuesday, February 17.

● Special Education Team meeting ---- Thursday, March 12– 4:00 --- AEA meeting room

● Tuesday, June 2 is a professional development day due to snow days.

● We have missed several days due to snow or dangerously cold temperatures.

Listed below are the days missed and the make-up days.

            December 9 (Friday, February 13)

            December 19 (Thursday, April  9)

            January 13 (Thursday, May 28)

            January 14 (Friday, May 29)

            January 15 (Monday, June 1)

● Do not tolerate  BULLYING or HARASSMENT regardless of where it takes place.  On the playground enforce the rules consistently, fairly, and firmly.  The rules and consequences are in place to protect everyone physically as well as emotionally.

● “PROCEDURES   MUST  BE  PRACTICED.”   Harry Wong ------ Recess rules need to be practiced.  Lining up when the whistle blows is a procedure.  Practice it ---- explain the purpose for the rule.  Be consistent in how the rule is enforced.   Now that we have returned from Christmas it is especially important to review procedures and practice them over and over again.

● Respect and Responsibility --- How often do your students use the phases “PLEASE” and “THANK YOU?”.

● Cold and Flu season is upon us.   Remind students to wash their hands frequently.  Get plenty of rest.

● We are hosting several college students during the second semester as they complete their clinical experience.  They are future teachers and we want them to feel part of our school and welcome.  They come here to learn from the best teachers in northern Iowa.  Give them things to do and responsibilities in your classroom.  I thank each of you for sharing y our expertise ---- you are helping shape the future.

● Open Skating/Rollerblading last week and on Saturday were a huge success.  Huge numbers attended with their parents.  A special thank you to Mrs. VanderWilt, Paul Armstrong, Les Wubben, and Mrs. Hill for helping.  Wonderful comments and compliments from parents and grandparents.

● Mr. Hill apologizes for the mix-up on OPEN SKATING dates.  The skates were booked by another school so the February dates for OPEN SKATING will not take place.

THINGS  TO  PONDER:

If you're in a vehicle going the speed of light, what happens when you turn on the headlights?
Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?
Why do hot dogs come 10 to a package and hot dog buns only 8?
Why do tourists go to the tops of tall buildings and then put money into telescopes so they can see things on the ground close-up?
