     Board Program Goal: We must produce students who can adapt to change, respect others, and work cooperatively to become contributing members of society.

 

     Annual Reading Goal: To increase the percent of students in grades 3 through 8 and grade 10 scoring at or above grade level on the vocabulary sub-test of the Gates MacGinitie Reading Assessment.

 

·         Community Cares Coalition Resource Fair.  This is a joint effort to get information to families who are struggling during this difficult economic time.  There will be a wide range of agencies represented who can provide services to our families.  The Fair is from 1:00-5:00 at the Forest City YMCA.  If you know of a person or family feeling the impact of current economic crisis please inform them about the Resource Fair.

 

   “Ag In The Classroom” will take place January 26 and January 27th at the following times:

  Stebens Children’s Theater will present “Why Mosquitoes Buzz” in the auditorium gym on Friday, January 23 at 2:00 p.m. for grades 1-5.  Grades 1 and 2 should move to the auditorium stage about 1:55.  Grades 3-5 should move that direction about 1:58. 
Visit with your students regarding manners,  being polite, good citizenship, and good listening skills.  When the play is over we will dismiss and I will ask the 5th grade to remain for a few minutes to meet the cast and ask questions.

 

·         We have missed several days due to snow or dangerously cold temperatures.  Listed below are the days missed and the make-up days.

·         Tuesday, June 2 is a professional development day due to snow days.

 

·         “PROCEDURES   MUST  BE  PRACTICED.”   Harry Wong ------ Recess rules need to be practiced.  Lining up when the whistle blows is a procedure.  Practice it ---- explain the purpose for the rule.  Be consistent in how the rule is enforced.   Now that we have returned from Christmas it is especially important to review procedures and practice them over and over again.

 

  Next elementary faculty meeting is Wednesday, January 28 rather than January 21.  This is a 7:30 a.m. meeting.

 

  Respect and Responsibility -------------- How often do your students use the phases “PLEASE”  and  “THANK YOU?”.

 

Cold and Flu season is upon us.   Remind students to wash their hands frequently.  Get plenty of rest.

.   Bullying and Harassment ------ recess supervisors need to be aggressive in the prevention of any type of bullying or unsportsmanlike conduct ----- notes home to parents --- denial of recess activities ---- notification of the classroom teacher ---- we need to be proactive.

·         Kindergarten Circus ---- Friday, January 30.

 

·         Budget Task Force Meeting ---- Monday, January 26.

 

·         Special Education Team meeting ---- Thursday, March 12– 4:00 --- AEA meeting room

 

·         Mr.Hill will supervise OPEN SKATING for First through Fifth grade students accompanied by a parent to roller blade from 5:30-6:30 on the following dates:  January 22, February 2, February 3, and February 5.  The cost will be $1 and students must be accompanied by a parent.  Skating will take place in the north gym and students should enter using the east door by the First Grade classroom.
